THE GHOST WRITER (Roman Polanski, 2010)

From the master of seducing middle schoolers... I mean, classic cinema, Roman Polanski, comes his new flick starring the master of seducing hotties... I mean, James Bond... I mean, Pierce Brosnan, and Obi-Wan Kenobi... GODDAMMIT I mean Ewan McGregor, about a suave secret agent and a mysterious Jedi warrior who team to track down a child sex offender before he flees the country... SHITBALLS I mean, it's about a former British Prime Minister who hires a new ghost writer to take down his memoirs. Along the way, the ghost writer discovers unsettling secrets about the Prime Minister. Whew, I didn't think I was gonna get through that paragraph.

But let's get serious here (HAHAHAHA I KID, I KID). No, really, I thoroughly enjoyed Polanski's new thriller. Ewan McGregor plays the ghost writer, who goes unnamed throughout the entirety of the flick, and discovers that his predecessor may not have died accidentally as everyone is led to believe. The reason for that is because Adam Lang, the former Prime Minister played by Pierce Brosnan, had some shady-ass dealings with the CIA. ILLEGAL ONES. I'll let you find out on your own what they are, because I sure-as-shit ain't in the business of divulgin' it here.

Polanski pulls all the thrills here, even sprinkling a little awkward comedic elements here and there, and the film pulls through from that. It really kept my interest throughout, and some parts had me on the edge of my seat. Yeah, it really did get that thrilling.

I also really liked the staging of the film, as different parts actually made me feel like I was watching a movie from the 60's or 70's, as Polanski is a filmmaker of those years. It seemed nice to see Polanski also go back to a genre he explored so much when he began making movies.

The music is also very well done, as is the nice, sleek photography. The acting, especially McGregor and Brosnan, is great, and those two were perfectly cast. Even if you have a beef with Polanski for bullying a 13 year old (he bullied her, right?), I still recommend this film because it is a nice interesting little thriller with some tense sequences.

BOTTOM LINE: Polanski's The Ghost Writer is a very well made thriller, and an interesting one at that, that will hold the audience until it's ultimate climax.
